Record shipments of over 1.5 million transceivers within 24 months of its launch

CommunicAsia 2009 - Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that it has shipped over 1.5 million transceivers (TRXs) for its fourth-generation base stations (BTS) - more than any other company in the world. This significant milestone was reached nearly a year earlier than expected, demonstrating the enormous demand for innovative next-generation wireless network solutions.

Huawei’s unique SingleRAN solution enables operators to achieve full convergence of multi-mode wireless networks, including base stations, base station controllers, sites and operation and maintenance management. As a core component of its SingleRAN solution, the fourth-generation BTS supports multi-mode radio access networking (GSM, TD-SCDMA, UMTS, LTE, CDMA and WiMAX), and incorporates green optimization and All-IP technologies, providing a truly convergent solution for network operators.

"Network convergence - including the smooth evolution to future technologies and the total cost of ownership savings it brings - has become a very real requirement for mobile operators," said Mr Peter Jarich, Research Director with Current Analysis. "Today, many operators can claim multi-standard base station solution, embracing 2G through 4G, and 3GPP as well as 3GPP2 technologies. Huawei has led the most recent charge, with enviable momentum being the result."
With the rapid development of various wireless standards, the need to support multi-mode technology is expected for a long period of time. Thus, cost of investment, operation and maintenance will invariably increase as operators would have to operate two or more networks simultaneously.

Mr Wan Biao, President of Huawei Wireless Product Line expects demand for Huawei’s SingleRAN solutions to further garner momentum in 2009 as more operators begin to capitalize on its superior value proposition. He said: "Huawei is committed to creating maximum value for our customers and the record breaking shipment of over 1.5 million transceivers is a testament to our focus on customer-centric innovation. We are excited to be now working with so many leading operators worldwide and we will continue to respond quickly to their requirements with solutions that integrate innovation, quality and value."

Huawei’s fourth-generation BTS are being used by more than 20 leading operators in 100 countries. In March 2008, Telefonica/O2 chose Huawei to expand and upgrade its mobile network in Germany and Huawei has assisted in the replacement of existing base stations and the planned deployment of more than 8,000 fourth-generation BTS. In August 2008, T-Mobile used approximately 4,500 Huawei fourth-generation BTS to modernize their existing 2G network in the Czech Republic. Insa/PR
