Could the slow economy help search?

Just under one-half of all Internet users in the US use search engines daily, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

Pew noted that even e-mail, which is the most common online activity, only engages 60% of users daily. Nearly four out of 10 Internet users checked the news online in a typical day, and 30% checked the weather.

Search's widespread popularity is not lost on online advertisers, who will spend $19 billion on search ads in 2012, up from nearly $10.4 billion this year.
