In a clever twist, Samsung today tried to upstage the anticipated release of Apple's 3G iPhone by debuting its Samsung i900, or Omnia handset, with a 3.2 inch haptic-enabled touchscreen display.

The i900 is a quad-band phone that will operate on both W-CDMA and GSM, and will support 7.2 Mbps HSDPA data speeds. It also comes equipped with a five-megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and a choice of either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage.

The phone will be officially unveiled at Communicasia in Singapore next week and will go on sale the same week in Southeast Asia. It will be available in Europe in July. No word yet on when it will make its way to the U.S. market.
