Sony Ericsson revealed a new line of phones for North America on Tuesday, continuing the camera-phone trend with two of the phones sporting the popular Cybershot brand and offering a record-setting 3.2 megapixels.

In a sign of the times, the phones also have the ability to connect directly with Google's Blogger and Internet-search services.

According to Sony Ericsson, combining advanced image-capture capabilities and high-speed data transfer makes the K800 and K790 the "perfect tools for taking and sharing high-quality pictures and videos."

As for the blog features, the company said that it is the "exponential growth in blogging" that prompted the partnership with Google.

The camera features on the handsets include autofocus, red-eye reduction, digital zoom, and flash capabilities. All users have to do is turn the phone horizontally and slide the lens cover down and a user interface similar to the that of a Cybershot camera will appear.

Sony Ericsson is the first mobile-phone manufacturer to offer 3.2-megapixel capabilities in a phone. The camera phones come with PictBridge technology so users can transfer pictures directly to a photo printer over a USB connection.

The phones also feature music and video players, a built-in FM radio, push-e-mail capabilities, Bluetooth, a memory-stick slot, and 64 MB of built-in memory. They won't come cheap, with the expected retail pricing to be around $400.

Mobile Blogosphere
Don't have a blog? With the K800 and K790, users who are not already part of the blogosphere can set one up right over the phone and then upload their photos to their blogs. The preloaded blog application is another industry first for Sony Ericsson and Google.

The handsets also sport the Google search engine, which is now the standard search engine for all new Sony Ericsson phones that have Internet capability.

"We are seeing exponential growth in blogging and consumers are turning more and more often to the Internet as a means of sharing information or images in personal blogs," said Jan Wareby, corporate executive vice president and head of sales and marketing at Sony Ericsson.

"By working with Google, we're able to offer a quick and easy way for people to blog as they discover how convenient it is as a way to share words and pictures with friends, family, and beyond," he said.

Music Everywhere
The mobile-phone manufacturer also launched a new addition to the Walkman phone lineup, the W300 Walkman, which can play both MP3 and AAC music files. It comes with 20 MB of internal memory and a 256-MB memory card.

The new K510 phone, a 1.3-megapixel camera phone with red-eye reduction and other features, was included in Sony Ericsson's string of announcements on Tuesday.

Last but not least, the K310 camera phones are designed to be more affordable and will "appeal to anyone [who wants] to take quick snapshots on the go and keep their pocket picture album always on hand."

These lower-end phones will retail for around $200. All the new phones in the linup are expected to hit store shelves worldwide in the second quarter.
